Reno County EMS is a county service managed, under contract, by Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. We are a Type I ambulance service providing Advanced Life Support Care to the citizens of Hutchinson and Reno County.
Reno County EMS is a Type I service licensed by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Service. What this means to you is, all ambulances that respond to your location will be staffed as an Advanced Life Support unit. This truly makes us a Mobile Intensive Care Unit, basically an ICU on wheels! We provide Emergency response in Hutchinson as well as the western part of Reno County. Tandem response throughout Reno County is done upon request from outlying services. We also provided emergent and non-emergent transfers from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center to other medical facilities and provide many hours of standby for sporting events and the Kansas State Fair.

- Staffed 24 Hours a day, 365 days a year. We Work 24 hrs on, then 48 hrs off.
Differences between an EMT & Paramedic
An EMT provides Basic Life Support care which includes the following:
- Oxygen administration
- Monitoring of vitals signs
- Splinting of fractures
- Insertion of non-invasive airways
- Depending on the service, some are able to administer some basic medications such as Aspirin and Nitroglycerin.
A Paramedic provides Basic Life Support Care in addition to Advanced Life Support
- Oyxgen Administration
- Monitoring of vitals signs
- Splinting of Fractures
- Initiated IV or Intraosseous line
- Perform endotracheal intubation
- Use of Zoll E Series Monitor
- Monitor your cardiac rhythm
- Read and transmit 12 Lead EKGs to the Emergency Room physician
- Provide an external pacemaker or defibrillator
- Administer Pain Medication for suspected or known fractures
- Administer IV Cardiac Medications as well as many other medications
